Hana-Rawhiti Connects with Hauraki

Matai Whetū Marae recently welcomed Hana-Rawhiti Maipi-Clarke, Member of Parliament for Hauraki-Waikato, for an opportunity to connect with whānau and the wider Hauraki community.

Hana-Rawhiti was elected to Parliament in 2023, representing the Hauraki-Waikato electorate for Te Pāti Māori.

Her visit to Matai Whetū was centred around whakawhanaungatanga — coming together kanohi ki te kanohi, building relationships, listening and sharing kōrero with the people of Hauraki.

The gathering provided an opportunity for whānau to meet their electorate representative in the rohe and to kōrero about the things that matter to them, their whānau and their communities.

For Hana-Rawhiti, whose electorate extends across Hauraki-Waikato, connecting directly with communities is an important part of understanding the aspirations, experiences and issues being raised by the people she represents. Her parliamentary record confirms she continues to raise matters specifically relating to Hauraki-Waikato and iwi within Hauraki.

The visit was a valuable opportunity to strengthen connections and ensure the voices and perspectives of Hauraki whānau could be shared directly.
