T-RAP (Thames Rangatahi Advisory Panel) has been celebrating Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori with a week of after-school activities bringing tamariki and rangatahi together through te reo, creativity, fun and whakawhanaungatanga.

Running each afternoon from 3.30pm to 5pm, the activities were an open invitation to all tamariki and rangatahi to come along, get involved and celebrate te reo Māori in a fun and relaxed environment.

The week kicked off on Monday with Māori Bingo and Karaoke, giving everyone plenty of opportunities to have a laugh, join in and use te reo Māori along the way.
On Tuesday, tamariki and rangatahi got creative with poi making, while Wednesday brought another hands-on afternoon with textured art and games.

The celebrations wrap up on Thursday with a special Movie Night featuring The Lion King in te reo Māori, providing another fun and accessible way for our young people to hear and experience te reo.

Of course, no good kaupapa is complete without kai! Kai and snacks were provided at every event, creating a welcoming space for everyone to stay, connect and enjoy the afternoon together.
With at least 60 participants across the week, it has been awesome to see so many tamariki and rangatahi getting involved in Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori.

The week has been about more than individual activities. It has been an opportunity to make te reo Māori visible, enjoyable and part of everyday experiences for our young people — whether through waiata, games, mahi toi, movies or simply spending time together.
